A number of programs are now nearing the end of their pilot test phases. These can be broken down into four inter-connected activities:

  • Inter-University Action-Learning Courses
  • Further & Continuing Education & Training Courses through Action-Learning
  • Arts, Creativity, Innovation & Product Development Activities
  • Volunteerism, Action Projects, Community Activities & Philanthropism

Durrow International Institute

The Durrow International Institute was established to provide international action-learning programs and courses through a range of inter-university collaborations. Some examples are described on www.quest-university.net . Charleville Castle finds itself on the site of the ancient monastic college of Lynally (c590AD). Lynally, in turn, forms part of the great seat of learning of Durrow, which thrived between the 6th and 13th centuries, sending out missionaries across Europe, during the Dark Ages, to form some of the oldest colleges that now continue to exist in Europe. Durrow International Institute has been providing single semester courses to students attending US universities since 1997. The objective now is to put these on a solid footing and to bring into these action-learning groups a wider spread of students, from different nationalities and cultural groups, students who are attending universities in many different countries. Quest Educational Institute

The Quest Educational Institute has been formed to provide further and continuing education and training through action-learning. The institute, through its action-learning emphasis, facilitates a wide range of learning styles and methodologies. The focus is on moving people from a dependence on teaching systems to learning and discovery. The institute is accredited by the National Qualifications Awards of Ireland, part of a new Europe-wide accreditation initiative. The specific courses are provided under the auspices of the Further Education & Continuing Awards Council, which has also taken over, in 2001, the existing National Council for Vocational Awards (see: www.fetac.ie). For more information contact: info@quest-campus.com. For an example of international trade learning activities see: Electronic Business School Of Ireland . Quest Innovation Activities

Wide ranges of innovation activities are promoted on campus. These range of arts festivals to highly commercial product innovations. A good example of a successful social development project involving substantial international collaboration is the enquiry into the impact of the technological revolution on the family and the policy issues involved - UN Workshop - Technology & Families. This project is collaborative with the United Nations and involves Irish Government Departments and Agencies (http://www.un.org/esa/socdev/family/Meetings/FamTech/FamTecRep.htm) Other projects involved students in the developed of highly advanced software for learning International Civil Aviation English now used by SAS, Air China and many others. A Quest Action-Research Activity resulted in the foundation of the Atlantic Corridor a partnership involving the Ireland, Northern Ireland, USA and Canada for collaborative development funded by the respective governments (see: www.atlanticcorridor.org). For some other examples see www.quest-university.net . Quest is pursuing an international inter-community project for the empowerment of people through internet collaboration, publishing and communication involving special 4-SITE groups (see: www.4-site.ws).
